Sinopsis :
This book critically examines community empowerment in the nickel mining regions of Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia, by exploring the relationships between discourse, power, and social justice. It invites readers to question how global best practices are defined, implemented, and evaluated, particularly when corporate interests, government policies, and community aspirations intersect. The book discusses discourse and regimes of truth, asset-based empowerment, partnership models, post-mining transitions, regional planning, and gender-sensitive approaches. It also explores the socio-economic dynamics of mining communities and the strategies they use to build mutually beneficial partnerships with companies and other stakeholders. Particular attention is given to developing a just empowerment model that promotes meaningful participation, fair opportunities, and shared responsibility. Reclamation is further examined as a long-term investment in environmental recovery and regional sustainability. By connecting critical perspectives with local realities, this book offers valuable insights for students, researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and readers interested in mining governance, community development, and sustainable futures.
